Thirty Successful Years

Thirty Successful Years

After two years of planning and fundraising, New Ways was able to fund its first project 30 years ago.

That first project was supporting a medical facility in an orphanage in Nairobi amounting to £11,360. From that small start, an amazing £8.2m has been raised and has been focussed primarily on our work in Turkana, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Malawi. Sources of these funds have included fundraising activities such as bike rides, climbing challenges, wine tastings, golf days, theatre evenings and a series of Advent Balls as well as support from a range of Grant Making Bodies. Amounts have fluctuated year by year, in fact it took us 10 years to reach our first £1 million but over the last few years we have been averaging around £400,000 annually. Something to celebrate – and of course we couldn’t have done any of this without the support of you our friends and families. A huge thanks to you all for your constancy – we really appreciate it. To mark our 30th anniversary we are planning a dinner, sponsored events, and more. Watch this space but shout if you can help!

So where has the money been spent, and on what?

The work New Ways has supported has mainly been in the Turkana region of Kenya, in Malawi, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. The illustration below shows the split between different project types with nurseries, education, and water making up about two thirds of the whole.

Seeing the results

For those who have been fortunate enough to visit the projects, the impacts are clear. However, for the great majority of our supporters we use videos, photos, reporting on the website, and our newsletters, to convey a sense of the success that our support brings in achieving our mission – Helping Communities to Thrive.

Our deepfelt thanks to everyone who has been part of this 30-year journey.

The following heartwarming photos as well as a video show who you are helping.
