Facilitating access to health care
During 2022, the Health Programme based in Lobur, Turkana North has continued improving the services rendered in this remote area of Turkana.
The general objective was to promote health, prevent disease and improve health care for the nomadic and semi-nomadic population of the so-called “Ilemi Triangle”.
This is achieved through:
- Facilitating access to health care for the semi-nomadic population.
- Facilitating the universal access to Vitamin A to all the semi-nomadic population in Turkana.
- Providing emergency care 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of prevalent diseases (especially diseases related to eyes, infections, diarrhea, malaria, and parasites)
- Optimising resources for patient referral.
- Starting a nutrition program for children under 10 years old, pregnant women and mothers who breastfeed their infants up to 6 months post-delivery.
- Ensuring the sustainability of the mobile clinic .
- Empowerment of the population in healthy and nutritional habits
Results in 2022
- 2,396 children under 5 year of age and 2,112 over 5 years of age have been treated.
- 1403 children were immunised.
- Ongoing care has been given to 2118 pregnant women.
- 1252 post-natal visits were carried out.
- 1551 children under 10 years of age have been visited in the reinforced nutrition programme.
- 2522 pregnant and lactating women have also benefited from the nutrition program.
- 39 patients have been referred to the referral hospital of the area.
- The project has remained within the budget established for its sustainability.
