WAYS ADVENT BALL 2009
The 2009 New Ways Advent Ball was held at the Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel on Friday 20th November.
The Ball is one of New Ways' key fundraising events and is a very special opportunity to catch up with old friends, enjoy a glamorous night out and, most importantly, raise as much money as we can for New Ways projects.
This year's Ball was a great success, despite the difficult year that many of us have had! Some 220 guests enjoyed a champagne reception, three course dinner and partying until the small hours.
We were delighted to welcome a number of the Community members who live and work in Kenya and Ethiopia . A poignant moment during the evening was the speech by Angela Docherty, Chief Executive of New Ways and Lourdes, a community member, who spoke movingly of her experiences of daily life in Ethiopia.
We held a number of fundraising activities throughout the evening, including a table game, raffle and Silent and Live auctions. In total we raised the amazing sum of £48,000 from the night.
The Live Auction was conducted by former England rugby player Chris Sheasby who excelled in extracting money from our guests' wallets and purses in the nicest way possible. Our top Auction item was a marvellous holiday home in Burgundy which went for £2600.
The Ball Committee would like to thank our generous sponsors, auction prize donors and bidders, our suppliers and all our guests who contributed to such an entertaining and worthwhile evening. The Community members and recipients of this generosity in our New Ways projects send their heartfelt appreciation to everyone.
